If you are looking for a medical experience that matches the architectural precision and high-stakes energy of downtown Chicago, Dr. Greg S. Cohen at Northwestern Medicine is a premier destination for digestive health.

Located at 676 N St Clair St, Suite 1750, his practice sits in the heart of the "Magnificent Mile" medical district—a soaring, glass-and-steel sanctuary where Ivy League expertise meets the grit and heart of the Midwest.

The Vibe: Skyline Science

Walking into Suite 1750 feels like entering the "Control Tower" of Chicago gastroenterology. Situated just a block away from the historic Water Tower and the bustling energy of Michigan Avenue, Dr. Cohen’s office offers a panoramic approach to internal wellness.

The "Clinical Architect": Dr. Cohen is known for his structural approach to the GI tract. As a specialist at one of the nation’s top-ranked hospitals, he doesn't just treat symptoms; he deconstructs complex digestive puzzles with a level of detail that mirrors the blueprints of the skyscrapers outside his window.

The Academic Edge: Being part of the Northwestern University ecosystem means Dr. Cohen is constantly operating at the "Frontier of the Future." When you sit across from him, you aren't just getting a standard check-up—you’re getting access to the latest clinical trials and cutting-edge mucosal imaging.

The "High-Stakes" Specialist: He is a go-to for patients who need more than a generalist. Whether it's complex IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) or high-level screenings, he manages the "heavy lifting" of gastroenterology.

Why the St Clair St Location is a Power Move

The Vertical Campus: 676 N St Clair is a vertical hub of medical excellence. You are in a "super-building" where world-class labs, imaging, and specialists are all connected, meaning your care is seamless and integrated.

The Commuter’s Dream: Whether you're coming from the Gold Coast or taking the "L" from the Loop, you’re steps away from the Chicago Red Line and the city’s major bus arteries.

The Post-Visit "Reset": You are minutes from the Lakefront Trail. Many patients find that the best way to digest a new health plan is with a walk toward the Pier, letting the Lake Michigan breeze clear the clinical fog.

Signature Focus Areas

The Cohen Philosophy: He treats the gut as the body’s "Second Brain." His focus is on sustainability—creating long-term internal environments where inflammation is silenced and nutrient absorption is optimized.

Advanced Colonoscopy: Performed with the latest AI-assisted detection technology to ensure "Zero-Miss" accuracy.

Crohn’s & Colitis Mastery: Tailored biological therapies for those living with chronic inflammatory conditions.

Complex Reflux (GERD): High-tech solutions for the urban professional’s most common digestive hurdle.

I got an endoscopy procedure from Dr. Cohen which went very well. No issues with the logistics, pre or post procedure. The reason I am giving a 3 star review is due to billing.

Since the only provider for the procedure is Northwestern I would have expected the office of Dr. Cohen to be more transparent with the costs. I now owe over a 2k bill for this procedure and if I had known that I would be responsible for this amount I would have not done the procedure at the time I did. Medical providers need to start being more transparent with these costs because it creates unhappy patients.

I recently started seeing Dr. Cohen for severe abdominal pain. Dr. Cohen really spends a lot of time getting to know your symptoms, and thoroughly investigates your health history for an accurate diagnosis. Dr. Cohen has also made some great suggestions and described these painful events as flare-ups which is absolutely true and something I never realized. I have seen other GI doctors who told me things that were completely false, and informed me to eat enough fiber which I already count daily and do as a vegetarian. The GI system is extremely complex and I am happy I can see a medical expert who understands this and can get to the root of the problem. Also as far as billing Dr. Cohen's website is extremely transparent about pricing so not sure how someone could be upset or complain about billing practices.

I have seen many GI doctors over the years, and he is truly the best doctor I have ever met. I am genuinely grateful to have him as my physician. He listens carefully to my concerns, takes the time to understand my full story, and answers every question without any hesitation. He backs all of his recommendations with research and published papers, which gives me so much confidence in my care. He even replies to my emails after hours and goes out of his way to send prescriptions or order lab tests when I need them. His dedication, compassion, and thoroughness are unmatched. Highly recommended.

Be warned that this office WILL auto charge your procedure fees whenever and for however much they want after the procedure is done WITHOUT sending any statement, notice, or invoice prior.

The office will then tell you to speak to their “billing office” to get a statement AFTER the doctor’s office auto-charged hundreds of dollars as requesting a simple heads up is beyond the office staff’s scope! How can this be legal?

A patient deserves to see a bill with options for payment PRIOR to being forced to pay! The office staff hide behind their 3rd party billing company to not deal with the overall issue and of course blame Northwestern for passing the bill to them. That’s not the point. The point is providing NOTICE and the literal ABUSE of autocharging your card on file!

In addition, I was charged additional thousands from both the hospital, the doctor, and my insurance because it wasn’t covered. Now I have to double check that the office isn’t double charging me fees Northwestern is also charging me for a procedure my insurance said wasn’t needed! It’s all the more difficult since the office staff claim they know nothing because of their 3rd party billing which candidly, is not my problem!

I don’t believe this doctor did diligence prior to going straight to colonoscopy (which due diligence was also given as a reason why it was not covered by my insurance by my insurance), which combined with other reviews I read on this office on Google, makes all of this feel too fishy. There are way better ethical practices around not hiding behind the NW name!

editing to add after response: none of this is about the Doctor not getting payment. none of it is an expectation of not paying. Point is, give patients a heads up before auto charging $400 nearly a year later, during xmas time, when I have no ability to even change the card or know the auto-draft amount because I was not given heads up. I’m sorry, there is simply no other excuse! By the way, the $400 was charged by YOUR office’s billing as per your own office staff, NOT NW. Your billing is under your control. Thanks for being considerate like your office staff was this morning!
