When you're dealing with a complex health challenge like a blood disorder or a cancer diagnosis, the technical skills of your doctor are only half the battle; you also need a guide who treats you with genuine humanity. Dr. Alexander Losev is a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist who has spent over 30 years serving the Brooklyn community with exactly that balance. Practicing at NYU Langone Hematology Oncology Associates on Quentin Road, he has become a trusted fixture in the local medical scene, known for his deep expertise and his ability to make patients feel like family during their most difficult moments.

Dr. Losev’s clinical background is incredibly robust. He graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his specialized fellowship training at NYU, which gives him a direct line to some of the most advanced cancer research and treatment protocols available today. While he treats a wide variety of cancers, he is particularly recognized for his extensive experience with blood-related conditions, including anemia, bleeding disorders, and myeloproliferative diseases. Because he is an Assistant Professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, he stays at the cutting edge of "next-generation" therapies, ensuring that his patients in Brooklyn receive the same level of elite care they would find at a major Manhattan research center.

What truly defines a visit to Dr. Losev’s office at 902 Quentin Road is the environment of respect and patience. Patients frequently highlight his "old-school" approach to listening—he is the kind of doctor who takes the time to explain a diagnosis in simple terms, ensuring you understand your options before any decisions are made. In a fast-paced city like New York, his calm and approachable demeanor is a rare find. To further serve the diverse community of Brooklyn, Dr. Losev and his team offer consultations in Russian, which helps break down communication barriers and provides peace of mind for families navigating complex medical terms in their native language.

Affiliated with the Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone, Dr. Losev offers his patients a seamless connection to a massive network of specialists and clinical trials. Whether you are visiting for a routine blood test or a long-term treatment plan, his office is designed to be a one-stop-shop for your hematology and oncology needs. He works with most major insurance providers, including Aetna, Cigna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, making high-level specialty care accessible to the neighborhood. We had been to several doctors, including the ER, and they ran all the regular tests but couldn't seem to find what was going on. We were referred to Dr.Losev. He was amazing! He spent time, asked questions, reviewed her information & ran the test he thought was needed. He figured it out and she's been doing great!

The visit was completely useless. Dr. Alexander Losev seemed disengaged and uninterested in my case. He looked at my tests, said there’s a problem but “not a big one,” and offered no explanations or recommendations. It felt like he simply didn’t know what to do and just wanted to move on to the next patient. A total waste of time — I left with no answers or guidance.
