For those of us who have the blessing of our basic senses, we often take them for granted. I am definitely guilty of this myself. Until I started going blind. That literally changes the trajectory of your entire life. My career is dependent on my ability to see and waking up and your eyes not working like they always have is a harrowing experience.

So I went to a doctor who is a Retina Specialist and after months of treatment he broke the news that my condition had worsened and surgery was now my only option. I was terrified. But that doctor told me to go to Dr. John Allapat. He specifically said, if they were my eyes, he is the surgeon I would have to do my surgery.

So I went. Dr. Allapat was kind, but I moreso appreciate his candor and honesty about the state of my vision. He told me that we must operate to save me from complete blindness and to try to restore what vision I lost. He was confident and I put my trust in his 30+ years of experience saving sight.

Now, after several successful surgeries I can see! I was afraid I would never be able to see what life looked like anymore, but I am eternally grateful to my God and my surgeon for the restoration of my sight. I wake up everyday and take time to be grateful that when I open my eyes, they see.

Fun fact: Post surgery, I went to a different eye doctor for my routine eye exam to update my eyeglass prescription and when my eye doctor found out I had surgery by Dr. Allapat she told me that he is highly revered in the eye doctor community and is one of the BEST eye surgeons around. I'm glad I made the right choice!
