Hidden away in a quiet corner of East Desert Inn Road, Laos Asia Market is one of those "if you know, you know" spots that defines the local Vegas food scene. At first glance, it looks like a modest neighborhood grocery store, but the second you step inside, you realize it’s actually a portal to Southeast Asia. For those of us living in the area, it’s the go-to destination for authentic Lao ingredients and a level of hospitality that makes you feel like family the moment you walk through the door.

What really sets this place apart is the incredible to-go food counter. While they’ve been doing some kitchen renovations lately, they still often have those "must-have" staples ready to grab. Their Lao-style Papaya Salad is legendary—it’s bold, spicy, and has that deep, savory funk that fans of authentic street food crave. Pair that with a bag of their perfectly chewy sticky rice and some Lao sausage or crispy beef jerky, and you’ve got a meal that beats anything you’ll find on the Strip for a fraction of the price.

The market side is just as impressive, especially if you’re a home cook. It’s a treasure trove of specialty items you won't find at a typical supermarket, like fresh bamboo shoots, unique fermented sauces, and those specific Thai and Lao herbs that make a dish taste "right." They also have a great selection of frozen goods and traditional desserts—definitely don't leave without checking the refrigerated case for their coconut-based sweets or banana rice cakes.

The vibe here is completely unpretentious. You’ll usually see the "aunties" running the show, chatting with regulars and patiently explaining the different dishes to newcomers. It’s family-owned and has been a staple in the community for over 15 years, which shows in how they treat their customers. Whether you’re a total foodie looking for a new flavor or just need some high-quality jasmine rice, this is the kind of local business that makes the neighborhood feel like home.

My wife was craving some Lao food so off we went to the market. Not to get stuff to cook but to eat because this market sells food to go here!

Last time we were here was prob 3 yrs ago. Their kitchen is being renovated at this time (Aug 2025) so we couldn't get any hot entrees (noodle soups) but they have cold items, luckily. We had the following:

1. Lao style papaya salad - It was soo good and on point with flavors!
2. beef larb - Comes with fresh cabbage wedge, cucumber and Thai chilies if you want more heat. We ordered ours at medium heat and it was perfectly delicious! Very authentic and just as good as what my mom used to make!
3. Nem salad - comes with fresh lettuce and cilantro for wraps with Nem. It was good as well but I would have liked more nem in it cuz that's how I like my Nem salad, lol
4. 2 orders of sticky rice: They were moist and chewy and so good with the larb and papaya salad. The portion is big here, unlike other places where the portion is very small.

They are very nice and friendly, we chatted a bit. They are family owned, 16 yrs and counting! They get a lot of locals and out of towners come for their food and grocery store and are open 7 days a week. It's not a fancy store but has everything from fresh produce too cooking essentials and frozen goods.

If you want authentic Lao food, come here cuz you won't be dispointed. The store front is unassuming and nothing fancy on the inside but they have a couple of seatings if you want to eat your to go items there. It is about 10 min from the strip and right on Desert Inn for the locals.

We came for the food and their hospitality. It is definitely worth a trip for some yummy grubs!! nom nom nom

This review is for the takeout food. Looks like they have been renovating their kitchen for some time now so no hot food (and idk if they will ever bring it back), but I was able to get the raw beef larb and papaya salad along with a side of sticky rice. All I gotta say is yum!!! The beef larb was especially flavorful. Ask to make it bitter- that's the only way to eat raw larb. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Vegas.
