If you’ve lived in Las Vegas for a while, you probably still call it "McCarran" sometimes, but Harry Reid International Airport at 5757 Wayne Newton Blvd is the official name for our gateway to the world. It’s located just a couple of miles from the Strip, making it one of the most convenient major airports in the country. For us locals, it’s the place where our vacations start and where we welcome friends and family to the neon lights. It’s huge and busy, but it’s laid out in a way that actually makes sense once you know which terminal you’re headed to.
One of the biggest benefits of this airport is the variety of nonstop flights. Because Vegas is such a massive destination, we get direct routes to places most cities our size don't, including new international flights to Sydney and Paris added for 2026. For locals, the Terminal 3 (T3) is usually the favorite because it’s generally less crowded than Terminal 1 and has its own dedicated parking and check-in. Also, don't sleep on the Innovation Checkpoint in Terminal 3—it’s where the TSA tests out brand-new scanners and tech that can actually get you through security way faster than the standard lines.
What really distinguishes Harry Reid from any other airport in the world is, of course, the slots. You can hear the jingle of the machines the second you step off the plane. But beyond the gambling, it’s a great place to hang out if you have a delay. There are solid local food options like Metro Pizza and Peoples Choice, and if you’re a Centurion or Chase Sapphire lounge member, the lounges here are some of the best in the West. If you’re just picking someone up, the Cell Phone Lot is free and a total lifesaver for avoiding the "circle-the-terminal" loop while waiting for that "I have my bags" text.
The airport itself is a 24/7 operation, but individual services vary depending on when flights are moving. As of early 2026, here are the general hours:
Main Terminals: Open 24/7, 365 days a year.
TSA Checkpoints: Most are open 24/7, but smaller ones may close late at night.
Airlines Ticket Counters: Generally 3:00 AM – 12:00 AM (varies by airline).
Parking (Long-Term & Economy): 24/7.
Cell Phone Lot: 6:00 AM – 1:00 AM.
Whether you're a frequent flyer for work or just heading out for a quick weekend getaway, Harry Reid International is a world-class facility that still manages to feel like a part of the local community. Just remember to double-check if your airline flies out of T1 or T3 before you leave the house—they aren't connected behind security, and that shuttle ride between them can take a solid 15 minutes!
