Quick Answers

What is Foteh's Tandoori?

Foteh’s Tandoori is an authentic Uzbek-style Chayhana and cafe in Brooklyn, renowned for its traditional clay-oven baking, charcoal-grilled kebabs, and heritage-inspired comfort foods.

Why are we unique?

We are one of the few places in Brooklyn that captures the true "teahouse" culture—a place where the bread is pulled fresh from the clay tandoor, the tea is brewed with intention, and the flavors reflect the genuine, unpretentious spirit of Central Asian home cooking.

Where are we located?

You can find us at 2650 Coney Island Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11223, welcoming guests into a space designed for relaxation and community.

The Foteh's Tandoori Experience Our Mission and Story

Our mission is to offer something different—a sanctuary of traditional flavors in a modern city. We believe that food, like hospitality, should be open, honest, and comforting. At Foteh's, we honor the ancient techniques of the tandoor and the hearth, creating an environment where local patrons and visitors alike can step back, enjoy a cup of traditional tea, and savor dishes that have been perfected over generations.

Culinary Craftsmanship

We pride ourselves on the "Tandoori" touch—everything we make is grounded in artisanal preparation:

Clay Oven Specialties: Our Samsa (meat and pumpkin pies), Kulcha, and Lepeshka are baked in traditional tandoors, giving them a crispy, golden exterior and a soft, chewy interior that mass-produced bread simply cannot match.

Slow-Simmered Comfort: Our soups, including hearty Lagman (hand-pulled noodle soup) and Shurpa, are slow-cooked to bring out the pure, rich essence of our premium ingredients.

Charcoal-Grilled Kebabs: We use authentic charcoal grilling to prepare our Lamb, Beef, and Lulya kebabs, resulting in a signature smoky flavor and succulent texture.

Artisanal Desserts: Finish your meal with our homemade Baklava, Chak-chak, or our famous layered Fatir with butter, prepared according to classic family recipes.

This is a low-key Middle Asian spot we’ve visited before, but this time it didn’t meet our expectations. The “fresh” salad was not fresh—the greens appeared wilted and should not have been served. It was also slightly warm. The half-round bread was crispy but overheated and hard to chew. If you’re looking for something affordable and aren’t too concerned about freshness, this place might work for you.

There’s a stretch along Coney Island Avenue where the familiar gives way to something a little more interesting if you’re paying attention. Blink and you miss it. Don’t blink.

That’s how I found Foteh’s Tandoori Kitchen.

I walked in expecting the usual neighborhood lunch. Instead, I stepped into a room that felt like it had been airlifted straight out of Tashkent. No pretense. No gimmicks. Just tables full of people who clearly knew exactly why they were there. Always a good sign. If you want to know where to eat, follow the crowd that doesn’t need convincing.

I did what any sensible person would do. I looked up, hesitated for maybe five seconds, and ordered the lagman.

What showed up was a bowl that didn’t mess around. Thick noodles, tender hunks of beef that any grandmother worth her salt would recognize as proper rib meat, swimming in a broth that had depth, attitude, and just enough heat to remind you it’s alive. Not the kind of spice that slaps you in the face. More like a slow burn that leans in and whispers, “you’re not in Kansas anymore.”

And then there was the kulcha. Warm, slightly crisp, perfect for dragging through that broth until there was nothing left worth saving. The kind of bread that makes you forget whatever carb-related promises you made to yourself that morning.

The room itself hums quietly. Friendly without hovering. Decor that feels lived in, not curated for Instagram. This isn’t a place trying to explain itself to you. It assumes you’ll either get it or you won’t.

I got it.

If you live nearby and haven’t walked in yet, you’re missing out on one of those small, honest meals that reminds you why New York still matters.

90$ FOR EGGS I do not recommend this place to anyone. Today we came here for breakfast and were completely shocked. Our order was very simple: one person ordered 9 fried eggs with 3 small sausages, another person ordered 2 eggs with 2 sausages, and we also had 2 regular samsas and a bottle of water.

At the end, we received a bill of almost $90. We still don’t understand how such a simple breakfast could cost that much.

We didn’t argue with the staff. We paid the bill calmly and even left a tip. But honestly, after this experience, it felt like we were treated unfairly.

A regular carton of 12 eggs costs around $1.50 in the store, and restaurants usually buy products even cheaper in bulk. So seeing a bill of almost $90 for basic eggs and small sausages was shocking.

The saddest part is that this happened at a place owned by our own people. It is very disappointing to see this kind of treatment.

For me, this was the first and last visit. I will never come back here again, and I do not recommend this place to anyone. If you don’t want an unpleasant surprise when the bill comes, avoid this place
