The Marakand Experience
Our Mission and Story

At Marakand, we believe that every meal is an opportunity to share the culture of our homeland. Inspired by the historic city of Samarkand, our restaurant brings the depth of family recipes passed down through generations to New York City. We pride ourselves on being more than just a place to eat—we are a gathering space where community, authentic food, and culture thrive.

Culinary Craftsmanship

Our kitchen is anchored by an open char-grill, where the magic happens every day:

Charcoal-Grilled Mastery: From juicy lamb chops and filet mignon to our expertly seasoned lulya (ground beef), our kebabs are grilled over real charcoal to capture that authentic, smokey essence.

Traditional Staples: Our Plov—a rich, aromatic blend of rice, carrots, and tender beef—is consistently rated a guest favorite.

Hearty Soups: Warm your soul with our traditional Lagman noodle soup, Shurpa, or our rich Mastava.

Artisanal Appetizers: Don’t miss our hand-folded Manti (large dumplings), fresh Achik-chuchuk salad, or our smoky Baba Ghanoush paired with warm, freshly baked Uzbek bread.

Great Halal Uzbek restaurant. The food was delicious, hearty, and very filling. We ordered salads, manti, lyulya kebab, plov, lagman, and potato’s with mushrooms. The waiters were very nice and friendly.

Came for Iftar without reservation and they were basically fully booked. The brother managing the floor (maybe owner) was very nice and gave us his table. All of the skewers meat/kabab options were absolutely amazing. So juicy, tender, fresh high quality meat. The dumplings were very good too.

Can’t wait to come back here.

Came here a couple of days ago and still thinking about how awful the service was and to find out they put an automatic tip which is crazy because the server never checked on us and forgot some items and when we mentioned them he still didn’t bring it. I think because of these automatic tips they don’t really try to make sure they are taking care of the customers. I had to grab to-go containers and a bag myself and walk up to ask for the bill because we were waiting so long for them to come and they didn’t. The food is decent but because of the lack of good service I will not be coming back here.

I prefer the food of the old location. For some reason it's different. The place looks a little bit like a dining hall. The gozleme didn't taste like gozleme but more like pita bread with cheese

An excellent restaurant with professional and friendly staff
If you’re looking for a delicious, high-quality kebab, you should definitely visit this place.
Especially for Iranians who miss the authentic taste of real kebab, this restaurant is a must-try

Sucks because I love usbek food and wanted to try this place. I walked in and felt unwelcomed right away. They gave off “ what do you want “ vibes right away. Got seated and sat there for 20 minutes without anyone coming up to me. It’s like they wanted me to walk out. They served everyone else that walked in after me that was their race. Unfortunate.

Unfortunately, the atmosphere and service didn’t meet expectations. The place feels more like an old-school cafeteria than a restaurant, with outdated table settings and cheap plastic covers that take away from the overall experience.

The food is okay overall, not high-end, but not bad either, just decent for the price.

At one point, the server cleared the table before the next course but didn’t wipe it down, even though there were crumbs and food left behind. I had to clean the table myself with a napkin, which shouldn’t happen.

Prices are reasonable, but the experience doesn’t match. There’s real potential here to create an “Eastern fairytale” vibe, but that comes through in details: friendly, attentive service, thoughtful plating, quality tableware, proper table setup, and even how the menu is presented. Right now, those details are missing, and it ends up feeling more like a cheap diner than a well-designed, inviting restaurant.

I wasn't too happy with the meal
Everything looked dry and out of place. The food didn't have much flavor and needed more seasonings. I feel like they could have taken to make the items better.

Absolutely delicious food. I love Uzbek food and this was some of the best I've had. The place felt very authentic and very Uzbek. The servers were a little nervous to speak English but they did fine.

The service is awful. I had to ask 5 times to get the check. When trying to order, for some reason they don’t sell two options for rice despite having a dish with a different rice option that it comes with. Maybe the service would’ve been better if I was European?

I ordered just a skewer of mushrooms and chicken. Chicken was good. The mushrooms were undercooked and gave me stomach issues later in the day. Do not recommend.

We finally had a meal at a reasonable price. I’m very satisfied and would definitely recommend it—everything was great. There’s plenty of space inside, the food is fresh and delicious, and the overall experience was excellent. You can even watch football while you're there.

I am of another nationality but my partner is Uzbe and she has taught me the beautiful things of her culture among those her food, something that I loved, whenever I have the opportunity I go to eat her food, but I have always had the same experience, they treat me differently, they have given me damaged food or the bad thing, sadly here was no exception, the attention terrible and two people arrived about 15 minutes after I arrived and their food even being the same dish they served it first and not only that they did not even offer me water and when the food arrived the meat with many fat and much less than the dish of the next table, very sad of their lack of empathy.
