If you’ve been walking around SoHo lately and noticed a crowd hovering around 450 W Broadway, they’re all trying to get into Or'esh. This place just opened in early 2026 and it is already the "it" spot of the neighborhood. It’s the newest project from the team behind The Corner Store, but it feels completely different—more intimate and grounded. The name actually means "light and fire" in Hebrew, and the moment you walk in, you can see why. The whole place is centered around a massive open charcoal grill that fills the room with this amazing, cozy scent of woodsmoke.
What really distinguishes Or'esh from the other trendy spots in New York is the chef, Nadav Greenberg. He’s a Michelin-starred pro who really knows his way around Levantine flavors. The big benefit here is that the food isn't just "showy"—it’s incredibly fresh and surprisingly healthy. They’re big on the "wellness" vibe, so everything is made without seed oils or refined sugars. You have to start with the Jerusalem Bagel; it’s this long, pulled bread that comes out warm with a bunch of house-made dips. It’s basically the ultimate table share while you’re waiting for the bigger plates like the grilled branzino or their famous 76-layer Wagyu skewer.
The vibe inside is what I’d call "elegant Mediterranean." It was designed by the Rockwell Group, and they used these soft beiges and gold tones that make the whole room feel like it’s glowing from the embers of the grill. It only seats about 75 people, so it feels like a private dinner party rather than a loud, bustling hall. A major "pro tip" for locals: getting a table is tough. Reservations usually drop a week in advance and disappear in seconds, but if you’re a party of two, you might have some luck showing up early to snag a spot at the bar where you can watch the chefs work the fire.
Logistics-wise, it’s a mature setting, so it’s definitely more for a date night or a night out with friends than a place for the kids. They have a pretty strict "no-flash" rule to keep the atmosphere chill, which I actually appreciate. It’s a clean, high-energy, and seriously impressive addition to West Broadway that proves live-fire cooking is way more than just a gimmick.
