If you find yourself in Kensington and looking for a meal that truly warms you up, you’ve got to check out Urgut Osh Markazi at 816 Coney Island Ave. Located right in the heart of Brooklyn’s "Little Uzbekistan" in the 11218 zip code, this spot is the definition of a hidden gem. It’s a casual, neighborhood eatery that doesn't rely on flashy signs or fancy decor; instead, it draws people in with the incredible aroma of slow-cooked rice and grilled meats that you can smell from a block away.

The main event here is undoubtedly the Uzbek Plov (Osh). In fact, the name "Osh Markazi" literally translates to "Plov Center," and they take that title seriously. It’s a massive, soul-satisfying dish of fragrant rice, tender chunks of lamb or beef, and sweet carrots, all cooked together until the meat practically melts. If you’re really hungry, the Plov Combo is the way to go—it comes with a side of fresh bread, a pot of hot tea, and a simple tomato-and-onion salad that cuts through the richness of the rice perfectly.

What really distinguishes Urgut Osh Markazi is the variety of authentic comfort foods beyond the rice. Their Manti (steamed dumplings) are hand-crafted and packed with seasoned meat, and the Qurutob—a unique dish made with flaky flatbread and a tangy yogurt sauce—is something you won't find at your average Mediterranean spot. If you’re stopping by for a quick lunch, their Samsa (savory meat pastries) are pulled fresh from the oven and make for the perfect "grab-and-go" snack.

The vibe is very relaxed and homey, almost like walking into a family kitchen. It’s a popular spot for the local community, especially for those looking for a late-night meal or a reliable delivery option. The staff might not always speak perfect English, but they are incredibly welcoming and attentive, often checking in to make sure you’re enjoying your meal. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Central Asian cuisine or just someone looking for a hearty, affordable dinner in Brooklyn, this is a must-visit staple that keeps the neighborhood fed and happy.

Business Hours:

Monday – Sunday: Open 24 Hours

Note: While the shop stays open all day and night, the freshest batches of Plov are typically ready around lunchtime and early evening, so timing your visit then is always a win!

I usually don’t write negative reviews because I understand that mistakes can happen anywhere. However, I’ve been to this restaurant four times, and every single visit had issues. Something was always missing from the order, they made mistakes, the wait time was very long, and the communication was rude and unprofessional. I didn’t leave a review the first three times because I hoped things would improve. Unfortunately, they didn’t.

Service:
If it were possible to give 0 stars for service, I would. The cashiers and servers behave in a very unprofessional way. They speak rudely and don’t seem to know how to communicate properly with customers. The staff talk loudly among themselves in the dining area. There is a clear lack of respect and basic customer service standards.
On my last visit, I ordered pickup through DoorDash. The estimated wait time was about 30 minutes. I arrived after 40 minutes to pick up my order and told them I was there for pickup. They looked at each other and didn’t even understand which order I was talking about. After checking, they saw that I had ordered through DoorDash and told me to wait another 10 minutes because they would start preparing it. In the end, they still didn’t prepare the order correctly. I waited inside for another 20 minutes. That was the fourth time I left this place frustrated, and this time I decided to finally write a review.

Food:
It’s a lottery. Sometimes the food is decent, other times the quality is poor and the portions are smaller. It feels like you have to be lucky to receive food that actually matches the description on the menu.

Atmosphere:
Very uncomfortable environment. Tables are often dirty, and there is no sense of cleanliness or coziness.

Overall, I do not recommend this place. You will likely waste your time, money, and patience.

Message to the owner: if you are reading this, you seriously need to work on your service and your staff. The same issues keep happening, and I’m not the only one mentioning them in reviews. It’s time to make real changes for the better.

Thank you for reading.

Amazing food - Manti and To'y Kebab were highlights. Plov was really good too but. Everything was perfectly cooked especially the meats. VERY relaxed vibe, service was friendly, borderline apathetic (it's fine). They were out of Lagman noodles and dessert but just means I gotta come back!

Extremely expensive for what you are getting recently. Have been 5 times in the last 3 months, considerably smaller and smaller portions. They are selling a small bite sized samsa for $5. Its gotten offensive with how much price gouging they do, especially in Ramadan.
