If you’re a pet owner in the West Valley, you know that emergencies never seem to happen during regular business hours. That’s why the Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center (AVECCC) at 7823 W Golden Ln is such a vital resource for our community. Tucked away just off 79th Avenue in Peoria, near the Grand Avenue curve, this facility is located inside the Canyon State Veterinary Specialties complex. For those of us in the 85345 area, it’s the place you hope you never have to visit, but you’re incredibly grateful is there when your dog or cat needs immediate, life-saving help.

What really distinguishes this hospital is its high-level critical care capabilities. This isn’t just a standard clinic; it’s a specialized trauma center equipped for some of the most complex medical situations, like emergency surgeries, blood pressure monitoring, and advanced pain control. They work hand-in-hand with your regular family vet, but they have the state-of-the-art diagnostic tools—like digital X-rays and an on-site lab—that can give you answers in minutes when every second counts. Whether it’s a sudden illness, a rattlesnake bite, or an accidental chocolate ingestion, they are trained to handle the "high-stakes" cases that smaller offices aren't equipped for.

The vibe inside is exactly what you need in a crisis: calm, professional, and genuinely compassionate. The staff here is famous for their "bedside manner" with both the pets and their stressed-out owners. They understand that an ER visit is often scary and expensive, so they are great about providing customized medical plans and explaining the costs upfront before any treatment begins. They even offer financing options like CareCredit, which helps take some of the sting out of an unexpected medical bill. It’s a clean, quiet environment where you can tell the technicians and doctors truly respect the bond you have with your "fur baby."

Logistics are built for speed and convenience, with plenty of well-lit parking right in front of the emergency entrance, which is a relief if you’re arriving in the middle of the night. Because it’s a specialized center, they don’t take routine appointments like vaccinations or check-ups—they stay 100% focused on emergencies. For Peoria and Glendale residents, having a 24-hour hub that never closes means you never have to wait until Monday morning for a professional opinion. It’s a reliable, world-class safety net for all our four-legged neighbors.

A long day, but after we got in to see Dr. Tim Betowski things went smoothly. He took his time to explain what was happening with my pup, Gracie Lynn. He gave me three ophthalmologists for a referral to proceed with Gracie's sudden blindness. I was not prepared for this when she is only 2 years and 3 months old. Praying she can get good care. The staff and techs were all great. You could tell how caring they were for the animals there with all of their different needs.

The staff and doctors were amazing! Great communication! They took my kitty right away with a life threatening emergency. He was well cared for and his procedure went well. They provided xray images, detailed information, and also allowed me to get his primary vet on the phone to discuss logistics. My sweet kitty is resting and recovering well!

I had to bring in one cat initially for issues with her mouth (she was in pain and couldn't eat). They were quite busy with some definite ER cases so there was a wait. But they were all very nice and attentive when working with me and my cat. I then had to come back the next day with another cat because she wasn't eating and losing weight. It wasn't as busy that day and they did blood work on her and did an x-ray. They did not try to push for additional tests if you were able to get to your vet or a specialist (and my cat was already set up with an internal specialist appointment for an ultrasound). Their costs, considering it is an ER visit on the weekend, were reasonable. I was very happy with their approach and "bedside" manner. Thank you!

I took my elderly minpin here for emergency care. The bedside manor here is better than I've ever experienced. The doctor and all the staff spoke to me with respect and dignity. They did in house blood work for speedy results and were extremely gentle with my 3.5lb dog. Waiting room had refreshments and the place seems extremely clean and modern. The vet and vet techs here really shine. I seen what other reviews said but I didn't experience negativity here, even when I wouldn't let my dog out of the same room as me. They worked out solutions and still treated me with the utmost respect and kindness. Truly, the most understanding staff. I'd like to send them all flowers. Thank you all

I came in with My Boy Apollo, He wasn’t feeling good at all but once we stepped in everything changed. First of all I gotta say they treating him very good specially not being neutered and being a pit bull mix. They immediately figured out he was having a reaction and took him back as soon as they could to get him some help. Wait was a bit long but they made sure he was taken care of so it was worth all the time. Thank you all.

Receptionist very rude over phone. Refused to provide estimates on IV hydration, got snarky and informed me I was more than welcome to go to Blue Pearl since they quoted me basic numbers. Then she hung up on me. She can clearly tell I'm going through a traumatic situation and she had the gall to hang up on me. Hope she gets everything she deserves in this life. Avoid this place. How do you think they'll take care of your pet if they treat you like garbage?

March 2026: Updating my prior review to reflect my latest experience with AVECCC as I just had yet another emergency with another of my dogs, this time Max, my 8-year-old Yorkie.

Max had surgery with my regular vet and developed pancreatitis in the ~ 10 days following surgery. The care we were offering at their office and at home weren't successful so I ended up taking Max to AVECCC.

AVECCC was fantastic, immediately getting my pup the care he needed, explaing everything to me thoroughly and patiently answering all my questions. In Max's 3-night stay at the facility, I coordinated with 3 different vets, all of whom were exceptionally kind, patient and informative.

The support staff - front desk, Techs, etc., were also extremely communicative and helpful.

I feel very fortunate to have an exceptional resource like AVECCC available to me and my pups and highly recommend them to anyone in need of urgent/emergency care for their pet.

June 2025: It's never an ideal situation when one has to take their beloved pet to an emergency care facility, but AVECC in Peoria made the experience far less stressful than it otherwise might have been and provided exceptional care for my 8-year-old pup, Murphy, who was suddenly stricken with a fast-acting, life-threatening auto-immune disease called IMHA.

A trip to Murphy's regular vet revealed that the acute lethargy I'd noticed was due to IMHA - his vitals were horrible and the bloodwork was extremely concerning. They recommended AVECC and I took Murphy there immediately.

In total, he was hospitalized with them 7 nights and required two blood transfusions, many diagnostics, and attentive care. During his stay, the communication was frequent, clear, informative, and patient. In addition to the in-depth morning check-ins in which the doctor would call me with a detailed update, AVECC staff welcomed my around-the-clock calls and texts to check on Murphy's status.

I feel like AVECC provides expert, compassionate care and highly recommend them.

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE! They have the WORST staff ever!

Yesterday, I brought my dog in after nearly 24 hours of labor with active green discharge, which is a KNOWN medical emergency. We rushed out of the house in a panic to get her help as quickly as possible. When we arrived, there was no sense of urgency or compassion from the front desk. You could tell that’s just a job for them. I’d be surprised if they even liked animals. Instead, we were met with routine intake questions while my dog was clearly in distress. A staff member also focused on the fact that she didn’t have a leash, which felt very insensitive given the situation. Most alarming, a nurse told me that green discharge during labor is “normal,” which is simply not true and very concerning coming from a veterinary professional. We were also made to sit in a cold waiting room with her on the floor rather than being quickly moved somewhere more appropriate. Overall, the experience felt dismissive and lacking urgency during a true emergency. I would not feel comfortable returning or recommending this facility, even to my worst enemy!!

Here’s a strong, heartfelt review you can use:

We cannot say enough amazing things about AVECC and the care they provided for our kitten, Kalisis. Walking into an emergency situation with your pet is incredibly stressful, but the team at AVECC immediately gave us a sense of calm and confidence that we were in the right place.

From the moment we arrived, the staff was compassionate, attentive, and incredibly professional. They took the time to explain everything clearly, kept us updated throughout the process, and treated Kalisis with so much care and love. You can truly tell that everyone there genuinely cares about the animals they treat.

The level of expertise and urgency they showed was outstanding. They moved quickly when it mattered most, while still making sure we felt informed and supported every step of the way.

Thanks to AVECC, our little kitten is doing so much better, and we are beyond grateful. In a scary moment, they were exactly who you’d hope to have by your side.

If you ever find yourself needing emergency care for your pet, this is the place you want to go. Thank you, AVECC, for everything you did for Kalisis ❤️
