If you’re working or living in the heart of the city, you know that finding a dentist who fits into a high-paced "Downtown" schedule is almost impossible. Downtown Phoenix Dental (111 W Monroe St UNIT 131) is the go-to for professionals and residents who need top-tier care without the long commute or the "doctor's office" stuffiness. Located right in the Monroe Building, it’s walking distance from City Hall and the ASU Downtown campus. The vibe inside is modern and urban—super sleek and clean—but the team, led by Dr. Saif Ghanem and Dr. Drew Ballard, is famous for being incredibly down-to-earth and friendly.

What really sets this practice apart is how they respect your time. They understand that most of their patients are literally popping in between meetings or on a lunch break. They are known for their efficiency—no sitting in a waiting room for 45 minutes here. Despite the speed, they don't cut corners on tech. They use digital X-rays and intraoral cameras so you can see exactly what they see on a screen. They’re also big on specialized treatments like the Pinhole Gum Surgery (a much easier way to fix receding gums) and Invisalign, so you can get specialized work done right where you already work or live.

One of the biggest "local" perks is their focus on cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Ballard is well-known for his "Halo Veneers," and people actually fly in from out of state just to have him work on their smiles. But even if you’re just there for a standard cleaning, the hygienists (Audra is a neighborhood favorite!) are praised for being incredibly gentle. They have a "no-upsell" policy that locals really appreciate—they’ll tell you what’s necessary and what can wait, so you never feel like you’re being sold a used car.

Financially, they make the Downtown life a lot easier by being very straightforward with billing. They accept most major PPO insurances and are great about explaining your coverage upfront so there are no mystery charges. Plus, since they are right in the middle of everything, you can hit up a local spot like Ramen Kagawa right next door after your appointment. It’s just a professional, high-vibe office that makes going to the dentist feel like a productive part of your day rather than a chore.

Business Hours

They keep a great schedule for the Monday-through-Thursday crowd, though they do close early on Fridays:

Monday – Thursday: 08:30 – 16:00

Friday: 08:00 – 16:00

From the reception staff to the dental assistant to the dentist…I am sincerely indebted to this dentist office for their responsiveness, timeliness, professionalism, and great work! I was traveling to Phoenix for a trade show…on my first night in town, my temporary bridge broke, leaving me with a missing front tooth…there was no way I could work the show the next day looking like one of the seedy characters from the movie “Deliverance”. Hoping for a miracle, at 9PM on a Sunday night I requested an appointment for “1st thing” Monday AM so my trip from Cleveland to Phoenix was not in vain. The receptionist called at 7:30AM, confirmed that I could come in when the office opened and they would fit me in. At 9:30AM I walked out looking good with a complete smile. THANK YOU so much for your excellent, urgent assistance!!!

Most of us, if given the choice, would likely prefer licking a hot air fryer over going to the dentist. Amirite?

So I was pleasantly surprised when I found my way to Downtown Phoenix Dental.

It’s located in the Monroe building, has ample parking directly under the office, a swanky lobby, and all the latest hi-tech gizmos and gadgets that guarantee healthier teeth and gums.

I was in between insurance coverage so I asked for a cash price for an exam, x-rays, and deep cleaning, and they were able to keep costs within my budget.

Dr. Saif, Daniel, and Audra made my first visit to DPD a very warm and friendly one.

And the best part? I’ll never again have to choose between licking my hot air fryer or going the dentist. YAY!

I unfortunately had a bad experience here. Went in for a second opinion, Dr. McKee spent 5-10 minutes with me and decided I needed a root canal which he was keen on starting immediately.

Luckily, I decided not to move forward immediately and schedule out to get a third opinion. Because his diagnosis differed from the first, I felt the haste behind a root canal was a bit of a red flag.

I ultimately self-referred to an endodontist and received a correct diagnosis of an irritated nerve due to TMJ which steroids and a jaw massage basically removed 90-95% of the pain immediately. They also confirmed that the integrity of the tooth was completely in-tact.

This is dangerous. I would have had a procedure that would have killed a perfectly healthy tooth for ~$725 (after insurance) and it would NOT have cured the pain due to the fact that the nerve was irritated upstream from the tooth but because it was the same nerve as the one that went into the tooth, the brain registers as tooth pain, when indeed it's TMJ instead.

That's a frightening lack of due diligence. I think if there's any shadow of a doubt, the Dr. should be referring someone to an endodontist to affirm the diagnosis.

I’ve had a few visits here now, and everyone at Downtown Phoenix Dental has been really kind and professional. The staff always takes time to explain things clearly, and they really helped me out when it came to pricing, which I appreciated a lot.

There was a small hiccup with scheduling during one of my visits, but it was an honest mistake that was handled quickly and with a genuine apology. Things like that happen, and they made it right. Overall, they’ve taken great care of me each time I’ve been in, from my root canal to my cleaning and follow-ups. Definitely recommend them if you’re looking for a dental team that’s patient, understanding, and professional.

I have had nothing but great experiences at this office. I have been coming here for years, and have always found the entire team to be welcoming and professional. I love my hygienist, Audra - she is friendly, talks through everything, and makes me feel comfortable. I'm also impressed that they are always on the cutting edge of technology! Always something new. If you are looking for a new dentist, I highly recommend coming here!

I just had my first root canal experience ever. I was super nervous, but Dr Saif was great. And his assistant, Daniel, was just awesome as well. Everything was easy - making the appointment, getting reminders, the actual experience, etc. And Dr Saif even put on little animal videos to occupy me while he did whatever he did to my teeth.

ALSO! Audra is my hygienist and she is AWESOME. The right balance of talking to you while not expecting answers while her tools are in your mouth. She explains everything clearly, offers suggestions on things, and is kind and helpful.
