Phoenix, 4015 E Cactus Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85032

If you’re a pet parent in North Phoenix or the Paradise Valley area, the Phoenix Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center at 4015 E Cactus Rd is a name you’ll want to keep on your fridge. Located right near the corner of Cactus and 40th Street, this place is a total pillar for the 85032 community. It isn't just a clinic; it’s a full-scale medical hub that stays open 24/7, 365 days a year. Whether it’s 2:00 AM on a Tuesday or the middle of Thanksgiving dinner, they are the ones who never turn out the lights.

What really distinguishes this center is that it’s a Specialty and Emergency hybrid. While they handle the "scary stuff" like sudden illnesses, heatstroke, or accidents, they also house specialists in areas like surgery and internal medicine. This is a huge benefit because if your dog or cat needs something advanced—like a complex orthopedic surgery or specialized diagnostic testing—you don't have to drive all over the Valley to find an expert. They have a state-of-the-art lab and a full pharmacy right on-site, so you get answers and treatments much faster than at a standard vet.

The vibe here is exactly what you need when you're in a panic: calm and incredibly professional. The staff is famously good at triage, which means they quickly assess every pet that walks through the door to make sure the most critical cases are seen first. Even though it's a high-tech hospital, the technicians and doctors are known for their "bedside manner." They take the time to sit with you, explain the medical plan in plain English, and give you clear cost estimates so you aren't left wondering about the bill while you're worrying about your pet.

Logistics are as easy as they can be for an emergency visit. There is plenty of free, well-lit parking right in front of the building, which is a relief when you're trying to carry a stressed-out pet inside. They also work as a "seamless extension" of your regular family vet; once your pet is stable, they’ll send all the records and X-rays over to your usual clinic so your primary doctor stays in the loop. It’s a clean, reliable, and high-level safety net for all the furry neighbors in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Cave Creek.

Business Hours:

Emergency Care: Open 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week, 365 Days a Year

We are so thankful for Phoenix Veterinary Referral & Emergency, and Dr. Terry in particular! Our sweet Pomeranian recently came down with a lower GI issue that gave us a big scare. We had 4 vet visits in one week between our primary care and PVRE. Dr. Terry spent so much time with us and our girl. Her attention to detail, explanation of diagnosis and treatment, and care and compassion for our situation was unmatched. She even called us personally to check in on her and to talk through an update to medication following a mild allergic reaction. Dr. Terry is a gem. I’d love if she could be the primary care doctor for my pets, but it’s clear that her skill set and expertise is much needed in an ER/specialty setting. I am already telling my friends & family that I have a place for them to bring their pets in an emergency, even though we hope they don’t have to! Thank you Dr. Terry, Angela, Sophie, and entire staff. We appreciate your care and kindness during our time of need.

I believe my husband posted a review that I sent him but just in case:

I’ve been here twice for the same reason. My dog had an allergic reaction to a vaccine. Once was at the end of 2023 and the second time was February 2026.

Both times, the staff was kind, attentive and quick with their service.

Yesterday I assume there were 3 people working and all of them played an equal part in making us feel like our dog mattered.

They checked his vitals yesterday, noticed swelling was going down and didn’t charge us for the care and attention they offered.

I hope I don’t have to take my dog to the emergency room again, but if I do I know exactly where to go if I want quality service by people who genuinely care.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this vet. I spent a significant amount of money, and unfortunately, it feels like it was for nothing. Not only did I not see any real improvement in my pet’s condition, but they also shaved his bottom without notifying or asking for my consent beforehand.

As a pet owner, I expect to be informed about any procedures — even minor ones. To make matters worse, after the shaving, my fur baby developed a severe rash in that area. He was clearly uncom

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this veterinary clinic. I spent a significant amount of money and, unfortunately, it feels like it was for nothing. My concerns were not properly addressed, and I did not see any improvement in my pet’s condition.

What upset me the most was that they shaved my dog’s bottom without notifying me or asking for my consent beforehand. As a pet owner, I expect to be informed about any procedures — even something that may seem minor. Shortly after, my fur baby developed a severe rash in that area due to the shaving. He was clearly uncomfortable and in pain, which caused unnecessary stress for both of us.

Communication, transparency, and basic consent should be standard practice when caring for someone’s beloved pet. I left feeling frustrated, unheard, and disappointed.

I would not recommend this hospital or the Arizona Humane Society’s urgent care, as they are associated. Please carefully consider your options before trusting them with your pet’s care

We were helped right away , our tiny 3 month old one eyed kitten was struggling to breathe. Dr . Megan Terry was so very knowledgeable about cats , she suspected FIP , we have treated FIP before .
She laid out the treatment plan , we chose to do X-rays and bloodwork to find out what was going on .
Lil boo kittys breathing got worse when he was on his side . Dr . Megan came right out to tell us the grave news , quality of life is what mattered to us and to Dr . Megan

We got to be there with lil boo kitty as the light left his only remaining eye .

Received lil boo kittys paw print and a card with very kind and caring words from all the staff that tragic night . That included a poem for all pet lovers when tomorrow starts with out me …..

Thank Dr. Megan Terry and staff

We were extremely impressed with the care received for Wiggy in her final hour. Wiggy was met with complete compassion from the team at PHX Vet & ER, so was her family! Thanks very much PHX Vet!

We brought our senior dog in after she had some neurological issues and the staff was fantastic! Our dog is reactive with other dogs and they were very accommodating. The blonde tech was especially friendly and reassuring when talking about possible treatment plans.
