Washington, DC, 901 Rhode Island Ave NE, Washington, DC 20018

If you live in Northeast DC or anywhere along the Red Line, you know the Home Depot at 901 Rhode Island Ave NE is more than just a hardware store—it’s a city survival hub. Located in the Brentwood area (right by the Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood Metro), it’s the place where we all head when our old rowhouse has a surprise leak or when we finally decide to turn that small balcony into a plant sanctuary. Being one of the few massive hardware stores actually within the District, it’s a total lifesaver for avoiding a long trek out to the suburbs.

What really makes this location stand out is how it handles the "urban DIY" challenge. If you’re living in a DC apartment and don't have a basement full of power tools, their Tool & Truck Rental center is your best friend. You can rent a high-end drill or a carpet cleaner for a few hours and then take it back, saving you money and storage space. Plus, since many of us don't own a car, the fact that you can rent a Load 'N Go truck right there to get your new mattress or grill home is a huge perk.

The staff here, like "Uncle Ray" and Jackie in appliances, are neighborhood legends who have seen it all. They’re used to the quirks of DC’s older homes and can usually help you find the exact specialized part you need for a 100-year-old radiator or a tricky plumbing fix. It’s a busy, high-energy spot, especially on Saturday mornings when the music is pumping and the aisles are full of neighbors, but the Self-Checkout and Curbside Pickup options through the app make it surprisingly easy to get in and out if you’re in a rush.

For those of us trying to add some green to the city, the Garden Center is a major draw. It’s the go-to spot for seasonal flowers, fresh sod, and even indoor tropicals that can survive a DC winter. Whether you’re a professional contractor hitting the Pro Desk at 6:00 AM or a first-time homeowner looking for the right shade of "Monument Gray" paint, this Rhode Island Avenue spot is the reliable, no-nonsense anchor that keeps our city homes running.

Business Hours

Monday – Saturday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Sunday: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Note: Curbside pickup is generally available from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. If you're driving, there's plenty of parking in the lot, which is a massive win for this part of NE.)

I want to extend a big thank you to Sabrinare at the Customer Service desk at Home Depot Store #2583. She was incredibly patient and professional. I had brought in a few items to return and exchange, and she took the time to help me with everything.

When I realized I had forgotten my wallet and ID at home, she was very understanding and patient while I went back to get them. Her attitude, kindness, and professionalism made my experience so much easier and less stressful.

Thank you, Sabrinare, for going above and beyond. Home Depot is lucky to have you on the team!

Absolutely terrible experience with the Rhode Island Ave Home Depot custom door service. We paid nearly $5,000 for eight “custom” interior doors and received work that was shockingly substandard: one door won’t close properly, one was cut so badly the hollow interior is exposed, one wasn’t painted on the side, and another leaves a large gap above the floor. This is basic quality control — not premium custom work.

The process with Home Depot was frustrating from start to finish. After initiating door measurements in late September 2025 and having a contractor measure on October 9, we never received the measurements and had to visit the store ourselves on October 20. Ms. Venice told us to email a quote request, which we did immediately — but after no response, we followed up and still never heard back from her. Ultimately we had to return in person again just to move things forward. During that visit, we literally had to sit beside her to guide her through her office inbox to locate our email and print the quote from her computer. When we finally ordered on October 28, she refused to let us read the agreement before signing--claiming her system wouldn't generate and print the contract until we had completed signing the agreement on a small signature pad.

Concerned about this seemingly deceptive tactic, we explicitly asked what resolution they offer if there an issue with the doors. She was clear and insistent when she promised a “100% satisfaction guarantee.”

We stressed we needed the doors before Thanksgiving when we hosted out-of-town guests and we were assured we’d be notified promptly when they arrived — yet no one contacted us. Only after three separate store visits did we learn the doors had already been delivered to Home Depot and were just sitting at the store, too late for installation before our guests arrived. The doors were installed December 1, and while the installers themselves were professional and courteous, the purchasing experience overall was disorganized, misleading, and unnecessarily stressful.

Customer service since then has been extremely frustrating. Mr. Jason promised follow-up after we sent photos — nothing. Ms. Kim promised a callback — never happened. In person, Ms. Toni and Ms. Angel said they’d help resolve things — even asking if a full refund and door replacement would be sufficient after they went through all their internal processes. Yet the final answer was a flat refusal to fix the situation and an insulting 20% refund offer because they "don't have the doors in front of them."

The store’s intentionally deceptive sales practices, product quality, and complete lack of accountability have been unacceptable. Months of chasing answers shouldn’t be required after spending nearly $5,000 on "custom" products. I strongly advise anyone considering custom doors here to look elsewhere.

I ordered a standard dishwasher. The installation team came and told me they could not remove the old dishwasher as it was blocked by the wooden floor, and I had to find a contractor to cut or remove the floor first. Therefore I had to let them take the dishwasher back and request a refund. Then I went to a local store, and they were able to lower the dishwasher by simply turning the front leveling legs. I feel very disappointed.

Had what I needed in great supply. I called their customer service and was informed about stock and was given the location of where the item was in the store.

They’re doing the best they can with a terrible location. Don’t go in the morning, swamped with contractors and day laborers. Some dude hit my car with his truck door, I caught him in the act and he shrugged it off and walked away. Our cars were not close together…

I went to buy white, plastic lawn bags that I saw YouTuber 'Clean The City' Lawn Care personality recommend them but all this store had was paper brown bags that cost $2.67 + plus tax. The team members were very helpful. Self-checkout was a breeze.
