The doctors at Hawaii Women’s Healthcare — located in the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu — offer comprehensive care to women throughout every stage of their lives. The team is dedicated to improving the health of women and provides services from obstetrics and gynecology to aesthetics.

In 1997, Cheryl Lynn Tanguilig Rudy, MD, and Cheryl Leialoha, MD, founded Hawaii Women’s Healthcare. Erin Gertz, MD, joined the practice in 2015, followed by nurse practitioner Andrea Wieland, APRN, in 2017, Saki Onda, MD and Jennifer Griesel, MD, joined the practice in 2019, giving the practice a combined 74 years of medical experience.

Hawaii Women’s Healthcare offers medical care for obstetrics and gynecology needs, including family planning, birth control, menstrual or menopausal management, annual exams, abnormal Pap smears, and lactation and breast-feeding services. The practice also offers technically advanced care with loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), hysteroscopy, NovaSure® endometrial ablation, MonaLisa Touch® vaginal laser therapy, and SculpSure® aesthetic solutions.

Dr. Sword is the best doctor I have seen! She really cares about the comfort and safety of her patients. Went in for a small procedure and she gave me numbing meds and a heat pad to keep me comfortable. No other doctor I've seen has tried to make uncomfortable visits a little less stressful for their patients. Highly recommend!

Warning for anyone thinking of removing their IUD— this office will try to force you into reinserting. This is a personal experience and I hope no one else has felt this way. My first visit with the Dr. was great, friendly, welcoming, I left feeling heard with my decision to remove the IUD at my next visit.

Fast forward to the next visit— the office scheduled me to get my IUD removed (like I asked), but also to reinsert a new one (NOT what I asked)— every team member I spoke with questioned me and made me feel bad about getting the IUD out without getting a new one. Front office, nurse, a second nurse… Then Dr. came in and made me sign a consent form and told me I have to take prenatal vitamins because “you will get pregnant since you’re not choosing to go back on the IUD”. Then proceeded to *not so gently* remove my IUD.

As I was walking out feeling slightly attacked, the nurse behind me said “okay let’s go get you scheduled for the reinsertion”…. NO. I felt very unheard, and not one member respected my wishes. This situation happened months ago but I just received a phone call from their office to schedule again… hard pass. Women should feel heard and understood with their gyno.

I hope with this review the office can re-evaluate how they approach patients, and no one else experiences how I felt.

It's just ok. This facility is extremely difficult to get a hold of, they insist on texting no matter what. Their billing department is worse, non-existent and IMPOSSIBLE to talk to anyone. If you have any questions about your bill, it doesn't matter how many times you call or leave a voicemail they will NEVER call you back or reach out. They actively try to avoid you just so they can force you to pay it without getting questions answered or anything. I won't be going back.

Unfortunately my review is negative of this practice. You cannot get hold of reception staff by phone. You have to text and wait up to 24 hours for a response. When I fell pregnant I had to fight to get an appointment earlier than 10 weeks! I went in at almost 6 weeks and saw Dr Lee. She basically dismissed me and my concerns. I asked if I could have a scan because I felt as if something wasn’t right and she said it’s too early (I know that was untrue). I ended up in the ER a week later with an ectopic. At this point the clinic offered no help at all. Only once I complained about the negligent care was I assisted by a doctor. Dr Onda managed my care through the 4 week ectopic process and was kind and efficient. I feel very let down by this clinic and as such wouldn’t recommend it. They’re clearly short staffed and shouldn’t be accepting new patients, especially when life threatening issues are overlooked
