Montgomery, 400 Taylor Road Montgomery, Alabama 36117

If you live on the east side of Montgomery or in the Pike Road area, Baptist Medical Center East at 400 Taylor Rd is probably where you go for anything from a middle-of-the-night emergency to welcoming a new family member. Tucked away right near the corner of Taylor and Vaughn, it’s a massive 150-bed hospital that serves the 36117 community and beyond. Even though it's a high-tech facility, it has a reputation for being the "friendlier" hospital in town—less of a maze than the downtown centers and much easier to navigate when you're stressed.

What really distinguishes Baptist East is its focus on women’s health and maternity. It is widely known as the "baby hospital" of Central Alabama because it houses the only 24/7 OB Emergency Department in the region. This is a huge benefit for expectant moms; if something feels off at 3:00 AM, you aren't stuck in a general waiting room—you go straight to a specialized unit where an OB/GYN is always on-site. They also have a Level III NICU, providing advanced care for premature or sick newborns right there in the building, which gives local parents a lot of peace of mind.

Beyond the maternity wing, the hospital is a powerhouse for Orthopedics and General Surgery. Whether you’re getting a knee replacement or dealing with a gallbladder issue, the surgical teams here are top-tier. A big "pro tip" for locals: the ER wait times here are often a bit more manageable than the larger downtown hospitals, and the staff is famously good about keeping you updated. They also have an advanced Imaging Center on-site for MRIs and CT scans, so you don't have to drive all over the city to get your diagnostic work done.

Logistics are a breeze compared to other medical centers. There is plenty of free, easy-access parking right in front of the main entrance and the ER, so you don't have to deal with confusing parking decks or long walks. The hospital is kept incredibly clean, and the cafeteria (which locals actually like!) is a decent spot to grab a coffee while you're waiting. It’s a professional, high-quality, and genuinely compassionate place that makes a big medical campus feel like a neighborhood care center.

My son needed lab work and upon entering the outpatient department…the receptionist Annie informed me that another individual was next in line. That particular individual was standing in another line whereas there were two kiosks and 1 was unoccupied. I proceeded to approach the unoccupied kiosk and was told, upon entering the building, that I had to wait bc the other individual was next. Although she was standing in another line, I was told very nastily by Annie that I had to wait. I found thato be highly unprofessional and embarrassing because that situation could’ve gone wrong. I feel as if I was being stereotyped and I did my best not to cause a scene. Miss Annie needs better interpersonal skills when dealing with the public.

Came in with our 81 yr old grandma. She had a UTI very confused, very weak , very very weak. We sat in the waiting area in the ER DEPT. FROM 5:30 TO 11. With her having to sit in wheelchair those 6 hrs. The E.R DEPT IS ABSOLUTELY FILTHY. ALL THE FLOORS LOOK LIKE THEY HAVEN'T BEEN CLEANED IN GOD knows when. The walls are all marked up. Once we got back to the E.R we seen a DR ONE TIME. HAD TO CHASE NURSES DOWN WHEN WE NEEDED SOMETHING. JUSST ALWAYS THOUGHT AMD EXPECTED MORE OUT OF BAPTIST. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HOSPITAL IS NICE AND CLEAN...... COME ON BAPTIST FIX THIS......

Loved my last birthing experience and my midwife Dana. The ER needs desperate improvements 6hr wait for basic labs is absurd! Waiting area is nasty and needs cleaning and out of work equipment shouldn't just be left. Also has to be well past fire codes with this many people packed in here and no cleanered walkway

My wife had pregnancy complications which led to 9 weeks of bed rest before ultimately giving birth to our 31 weeker. From antepartum, to labor and delivery, to postpartum, then to the NICU, Baptist East took phenomenal care of my family. The NICU team is extremely knowledgeable and not to mention compassionate. The quality of care my son received gave us peace of mind during a time where you’d expect many worrisome and sleepless nights. We are forever grateful and indebted for everyone that has helped us.

Took my 10 month old to the ER because she was throwing up consistently. We made it to the ER where she threw up about 5 times, we waited 5 hours just to go home with no answers to why she's sick. I'm very disappointed nobody checked on my baby but everyone else was seen

Waited 3 hours for care in the ER before finally leaving. Multiple people ahead of me did the same. Unacceptable

The Out Patient Center of Baptist East was a great experience. Nurse Jodie was very knowledgeable and friendly. I hope I get her again for my next visit. The staff that checked me in was great as well. Thank you.

4.5 hours in the ER with my son for vomiting, abdominal pains and a slight fever. Never seen by a doctor. Ridiculous!

Spent 5 hours with their emergency room to check on a concussion. Most emergency rooms if you have insurance you have a copay. I was not informed, despite the transparency law passed in 22 that all medical practitioners are to inform you of extra billing that UNLIKE OTHER emergency rooms they will use a outside service to CHARGE you extra passed your co-pay.

I got my usual amount to pay off PLUS this extra bill that would be 200$ for a doctor to "look" at my scan. They are scammers like all Baptist hospital's and honestly so tired of these thriving practices

My review is solely based on their moral compass or the lack thereof, as I've not stepped foot into this establishment. My fiance and I are scheduled for our first child to be delivered today. This appointment was made for us by our OB, who is partnered with or affiliated with Baptist East. We have been anticipating this day for almost two weeks now. I took off work early for this appointment and we are now being told that we're likely to have to wait for another day or two to see our little girl. It is absolutely maddening to be this excited about a scheduled appointment and to have that excitement robbed from us. I've now lost valuable pay, caused a mass of excitement for peers and family, and had my own anxiety worsened. Disappointment is the least of descriptors I can convey to how I feel right now. Baptist East upper management should be investigating their practices as it seems they are incompetent in their abilities to keep scheduled appointments.

*Update on first review: still playing games with us. I've lost three days of work now because of this hospital and their inability to keep their scheduled appointments. Most importantly we're almost at 41 weeks and they're acting like they can't do anything.

If I could, I would give no stars to this place. This may not be for everyone that works here, but the ER here is god awful. They did get me in quick due to pain being too intense, but once I got back there..i was mistreated severely. I would go into specifics, but just take this as a warning to avoid this ER for the sake of your health. The inside is not that clean and the wheelchairs are INCREDIBLY uncomfortable and will make your pain worse. There is no support on the sides of these wheelchairs so if you feel you are about to faint, you will most likely fall and hit the floor. Handle your patients with care and support or find a new career....

**Edit for Owner**
I refuse to connect further. You know what is wrong with the hospital. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT before you face serious lawsuits.

My son is a college student living in Montgomery, away from home. He caught a stomach bug and was throwing up for over 10 hours. The urgent care wanted to close on time so they said he needed to go to the ER to get fluids. He arrived at 9pm and sat there, barely able to hold his head up for over 5 hours and was never seen. My brother in law asked multiple times when he could be seen and was told they couldn’t give him a timeframe.
This is pathetic. What if it was something more serious? I’ve read the reviews and you would think y’all would get it together with all of the bad ones that read just like mine. But you don’t care. I’m sure I’ll get my $1000 for you taking his vitals.
If you actually love your family members, don’t ever take them to Baptist East.

I was hospitalized for pneumonia last Monday after visiting the ER. Being a senior, it’s not my first hospitalization. It was an absolute great experience. Top-notch, caring staff, quickly taking care of all requests. I’m in the caring industry myself, on the mental health side, and caregivers recognize great care. Thanks to the entire staff on the second floor from lead medical to techs, including the respiratory team. You made an unpleasant condition and dangerous condition much easier to tolerate! I can’t thank you enough.
