In the medical corridor of Montgomery, Dr. Carlos M. Gadea Jr at 2119 E South Blvd, Ste 200, serves as a specialized architect of relief for those living with chronic pain and autoimmune disorders. Practicing at the UAB Multispecialty Clinic at Baptist Medical Center South, Dr. Gadea is a board-certified rheumatologist who combines the academic rigor of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with a deeply personalized, Montgomery-focused bedside manner.
Here is why Dr. Gadea’s practice is a vital hub for musculoskeletal health in the River Region:
The Vibe: Academic Excellence with a Personal Touch
Located within the prominent Baptist Medical Center South campus, the office environment is defined by clinical precision and unhurried advocacy. Dr. Gadea is widely recognized for his "listening-first" philosophy—a rare trait in the high-volume world of autoimmune care. Patients frequently describe him as a physician who demystifies complex lab results and treats the person rather than just the diagnosis.
Why This Practice Is Truly Unique:
The "UAB-Baptist" Alliance: This location is a powerful bridge between two medical giants. Patients receive the cutting-edge research and clinical trial access of UAB Medicine while enjoying the accessible, community-based care of Baptist Health.
Ultrasound-Guided Innovation: Dr. Gadea is a specialist in Ultrasound-Guided Steroid Injections. Unlike traditional "blind" injections, he uses real-time imaging to ensure medication is delivered with pinpoint accuracy into joints and tendons. This "precision strike" approach is a game-changer for treating carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, and complex osteoarthritis.
The "Limb Pain" Detective: While many rheumatologists focus strictly on arthritis, Dr. Gadea has worked on significantly more claims related to Limb Pain and Sjögren’s Syndrome than other providers in the area. This makes him the go-to specialist for the "vague" chronic pains that often elude general practitioners.
Specialized Treatment Frontiers
Dr. Gadea focuses on the "science of inflammation," offering expert management for:
Advanced Biologic Therapy: He is known for skillfully navigating the transition between biologic medications to find the perfect "fit" for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus.
Viscosupplementation: For those looking to delay knee surgery, he offers specialized lubrication injections designed to cushion the joint and restore mobility.
Osteoporosis Screening & Management: Beyond treating pain, he focuses on long-term structural health, providing bone density assessments and preventative therapies to protect his patients as they age.
Why Montgomery Residents Trust Dr. Gadea:
The "Family" Dynamic: Dr. Gadea’s commitment to Montgomery is a family affair—he is married to fellow specialist Dr. Ximena Ruiz, and their shared passion for the community is reflected in their patient-centered care models.
Academic Pedigree: With a fellowship from the University of Kentucky and a residency at the University of Connecticut, he brings elite, national training to the heart of Alabama.
High Accessibility: Despite his specialist status, the clinic is praised for its low wait times and the availability of telehealth appointments, making it easier for patients from surrounding rural areas to access top-tier rheumatology.
The Insider Move: If you are dealing with an undiagnosed "mystery pain," bring a detailed timeline of your symptoms and any previous imaging. Dr. Gadea is a "diagnostic detective" who excels at connecting the dots between complex history and clinical data.
Dr. Carlos Gadea received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences degree from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. He received his medical degree from the Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centro America. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, Farmington and fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. He is board-certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. He is also a member of the American College of Rheumatology.
Dr. Gadea is married to fellow physician Dr. Ximena Ruiz and they have one son and one daughter. In their spare time, they enjoy trying new restaurants, spending time outdoors and shopping.
