H Mart Philadelphia (North Front St)

Located at 6201 N Front St, this H Mart is a sprawling, 50,000-square-foot culinary powerhouse that transformed a former Pathmark into the largest Asian supermarket within Philadelphia city limits. Known for its airy, high-ceilinged layout and diverse clientele, it serves as a massive bridge between the traditional Korean community and the broader, multicultural neighborhoods of North Philly and Melrose Park.

The Front Street Highlights

The "Trilingual" Market: Reflecting its diverse shoppers, this location is noted for its trilingual signage in English, Korean, and Chinese, making it one of the most accessible and welcoming international hubs in the city.

The "First" for Asian Spirits: This location made waves by being one of the first Asian markets in Philadelphia to offer a dedicated alcohol section. You can find an extensive wall of Soju (including various fruit flavors) and Japanese Sake, alongside a curated selection of beer and wine.

A Heavyweight Food Court: The food hall here is a local legend. It features Pelicana Chicken (the "Godfather" of Korean fried chicken), Kyodong Noodles for world-class Jjajangmyeon, and Bukchon for bubbling, spicy tofu hotpots. It’s also home to Tiger Sugar, famous for its "brown sugar boba" with signature tiger-stripe syrup streaks.

K-BBQ Ready-to-Go: The butcher department is massive, offering some of the city's best pre-marinated Bulgogi and Galbi. They also stock specialized cuts like thinly sliced ribeye for Philly-style "at-home" cheesesteaks or traditional hot pot.

Paris Baguette & Beyond: Anchoring the front of the store is a high-traffic Paris Baguette, perfect for snagging a "Cloud Cake" or a savory curry bun. For those seeking more street-style snacks, the Da Pan stall serves up al dente Bulgogi fried noodles on sizzling stone platters.

Why It’s Unique

H Mart Philadelphia on Front Street is defined by its "Community Anchor" status. While the Elkins Park location nearby has its own charm, the Front Street store feels like a modern "megastore" designed for the 21st century. It is uniquely spacious, avoiding the cramped aisles often found in urban markets. It functions as a cultural "town square" where you can find everything from high-end Zojirushi rice cookers to the latest K-Pop-themed coffee drinks and global beauty brands.

Insider Tip: This location has a massive, free parking lot, which is a rare luxury in Philadelphia. If you're an adventurous cook, head to the herb section—this branch is known for having a deeper selection of fresh Southeast Asian herbs (like perilla leaves and Thai basil) than almost any other H Mart in the region.

It’s my favorite Hmart, I wish it were closer. Great seafood section. The food court has the best jjamppong in Philadelphia. One note: do layer up, as the place is FREEZING year round. It gives me a headache and my fingers lose function.

Clean and fresh branch of HMart with plenty of parking. The food court is a bit compressed compared to Upper Darby. Massive selection of groceries from around the world, big fresh fish counter. Fills me with wonder.

What a great supermarket with so much variety on groceries and household stuff! I finally got a chance to visit an Hmart for the first time in November 2023 and wondering why it took me so long!? this will definitely be my go to spot for all my Asian cravings and the prices are reasonable. They also have a food court towards the cash registers that I MUST try out soon, cute stationary section, and it's kept very organized. Check it out guys

This H-mart is clean, well-stocked, and impressive with a variety of tofu options. The restaurant inside offers delicious pork bone ramen. If you visit, I recommend trying the fresh bakery items, especially the recommended milk bread. I would love to go again when I visit Philadelphia.

Everything Asian, and international. I mean, there's actually a Paris Baguette with all kinds of fresh French pastries and bread baked on premises there.

I love the Rose Tteobokki with ramen here. I often go here when I am craving for many things and can’t decide. I could get jjajangmyeon or noodle soup or corn dogs, tiger sugar milk tea. Plus, all the foods is great. Even if you pick one or two things, you can’t really go wrong with the foods here. The price is way more reasonable then center city or any other places that I have had.

I read the book crying in H Mart and was immediately excited about exploring as a Jamaican/American. Finally after 2 years I made it to this location and the variety did not disappoint…. However they are so expensive that it is truly ridiculous. Additionally they do not have any way of helping curious shoppers make selections. A store ambassador would be a great idea. Help to explain to shoppers how to use certain unfamiliar ingredients.

The best deal I found was pork neck bones and red dragon fruit. The other items I only got because I was there. The best experience was the food court. My lunch was excellent.

If you want to top off this Asian experience make an appointment at Chung Dam Spa and get a Korean Body Scrub! You’re welcome!

I love most of what this place has to offer but when it comes to the food court I am not planning to dine with them again. Last time I was there I had ordered fried rice and black beans. Little did I know the black beans have pork in them and I don't eat that. I told the waitress about it and she said next time just asked without pork. I told her that that should have been on the menu. My meal also came with a soup and when I asked about that she said that they don't know what's in it. You can't serve people food that you don't even know what goes into it.

I still like it as a grocery store and as a bakery.

I got really bad experiences with this Hmart. I went to this place for quite a few times, and I have 3 things I can share with you.
1. About 2 years ago, I went to this Hmart during the Covid-19 pandemic. I was choosing the fruits and one of their old Korean male employee rudely spoke to me and asked me don't touch the fruits. He exactly said if I touched the fruits other people won't buy them. True, that is during Covid-19 pandemic, but I can customer choose products without touching them? And I strongly believe there should be better and politer way to talk with your customers.
2. Once I went to buy the alive lobsters, and the lady there tried to sell me the dead lobster with the same price as the alive lobsters. She tried so hard to convince me to buy the dead lobsters but I refused. Then she looked so unhappy and picked the alive lobsters and put them with a lot of water into my bag, then just printed the price. I asked her to dump the water out, she was unhappy and tried to refuse. I insisted she should dump the water, I won't pay the water with the price of lobster. And finally she dumped the water out and printed another price. There was 1 dollar difference between the 2 prices. And she complained to me: it was only 1 dollar! Oh well, don't you think it is ridiculous?
3.I bought an alive black fish from the Hmart yesterday and paid a little bit more than 38 dollars. I asked them to clean the fish and I wanted the whole fish. The employee there cleaned the inside organs and left all the fish scales unremoved. I didn't realize and took the fish, then I had to spend half hour to clean the scales without tools. It made me so annoyed so I called the customer service of this Hmart. The old Korean lady just spoke so rude to me and told me they charged for cleaning fishes and it was my duty that I didn't clarify how I wanted them to the clean fish. Then she transferred me to their seafood manager. The manager was a little bit better, but he was also just trying to convincing me that it was my duty that I didn't make it clear enough. I don't know, I really don't understand at which place clean the fish means cleaning the inside organs but left the scales? Who wants to keep the scales of fish while got the inside organs removed? I don't know. And major thing that forced me to leave this comment was none of them said a single "sorry" to me. None of them feel bad about my bad experiences. They just tried to convince me that was my fault, and that was all. They didn't even try to pretend "I feel sorry for you".
Fine.
I may can dig out more bad experience with this place, but this comment has been long enough for me. Hope it can help any of you here.
Also I strongly commend this Hmart to give their customers some kinds of customer services training. The experiences kind of make me feeling like I was in those Korean TV dramas.
Does any of you really care about your customer experience?
I felt so bad with those money I spent at this place.
Fine.
No respect to me. No respect to you.
