It’s located right in the heart of the "The District" section of the mall, and you can’t miss it—it has a vibrant, Day of the Dead-inspired decor that’s colorful, edgy, and full of life. It’s the perfect spot for a loud, fun dinner with friends or a sunny afternoon on their massive outdoor patio, which is great for people-watching while you sip a drink.

The food here is all about "Mexico City Soul Food," which means they focus on authentic, scratch-made recipes rather than the typical Tex-Mex you find everywhere else. Their guacamole is legendary because they make it fresh to order and top it with pomegranate seeds, which sounds a little different but tastes incredible. If you’re a fan of tacos, you have to try the Cochinita Pibil or the Quesobirria—the meat is slow-cooked and packed with flavor. For something heartier, their enchiladas with black mole are the real deal and show off the complexity of traditional Mexican cooking.

If you’re a fan of tequila or mezcal, you’ve hit the jackpot. They have a massive "tequileria" with over 300 different labels, and the bartenders really know their stuff. Their Happy Hour (running weekdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and again late night from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM) is one of the best in North Phoenix. You can grab discounted tacos, margaritas, and tequila flights without breaking the bank. It gets pretty busy, especially on weekends when there’s live music or a big game, so it’s always a good idea to put your name on the list early.

The vibe is upscale but still totally welcoming—you’ll see people in everything from golf attire to casual date-night outfits. It’s also surprisingly kid-friendly with a solid menu for the "Little Queens and Kings." They keep the kitchen going late, which is a big plus for this part of town. Their hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and they stay open until 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick taco lunch or a long night of margaritas, it always feels like a party.

I wish this was a 5 star review but, I was disappointed in the service and the food. I got the 3 shrimp taco dish and I ate it but didn't enjoy it. The shrimp was rubbery and fishy. I had to ask for my drink after my food arrived. The server was nice and apologetic but, that's not great service. I hope to have a better experience next time.

I went to Barrio Queen at Desert Ridge for dinner on a Saturday evening with a group of friends. We sat on the patio, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We ordered the Barrio Guacamole, which they make tableside, and it was off the hook. It was honestly the best guacamole I’ve ever had. I had the grilled shrimp tacos for dinner, which were also amazingly delicious. And Ricardo was the most energetic and attentive waiter; he made our whole experience feel so special. This is my new favorite place — will definitely be returning soon!

KM Lily took great care of me and my friend. She ensured we had amazing seats as I just flew in and gave me the specials recommendations. Arlene was our server and made sure we were good at all times. I’m sitting here feeling very fulfilled, happy and content. Thank you for the wonderful service after a long day of not eating just getting off a plane.

We stopped in for some happy hour and Nick did just that! The food and service was fantastic and we will definitely be back to see Nick again!

The food? Amazing. Not your traditional Mexican food, but an elevated take on Mexican favorites. The atmosphere got 4:5 only because it was very loud (music and people talking over music) and was oftentimes difficult to carry conversation, but that is the only thing I would critique.

Food is typically decent, but nothing you couldn't get at any number of places. Past few occasions, the speed of service was remarkably terrible. Food comes out in decent time once you've ordered, but you'll wait to have your server greet you, check on you, or close your bill. Front of house needs a ton of work.

DAMN, were those some amazing tacos! Every piece of meat was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor from tortilla to sauce. Cannot recommend more for a nice night out with Mexican food

First time here and not quite what I expected. Food is a different Mexican variety using lots of matza in the enchiladas. Service was nothing special either. was really looking forward to a great meal out and was disappointed.

Love coming here for either a drink with appetizers or a plate of tacos.

I love the outdoor seating area. It's open, shaded and practically has no foot traffic from people passing by.

If you want a diverse taco selection, go for a shrimp, saudero azteca and al pastor.

First time there. Expected it to be better than it was. Sat outside. Cool evening. Drinks were good. Chips and salsa were not my favorite. Salsa lacked any type of flavor. I ordered the trio enchilada. They were cold and flavorless. The beans were burnt. Who makes an enchilada dinner that's tasteless and cold? Barrio queen does. The service was great. I'm not going to return. Food is not my style.

First time in Phoenix and we could not have loved this place more! The food was excellent, so fresh and flavorful. Angel Q was so friendly and attentive - made our experience extra special. The place was very clean and had a great vibe that mixed traditional and modern art.

Don't sit outside if you do they forget about you.
-server wasn't too attentive until after the food arrived and we expressed our concern with the bad portion sizes on the tacos, incorrect burrito served and cold tortillas.
- the portion size for the 3 tacos for $15 is erroneous. Less than 1.5 ounces of protein in this case shrimp and fish tacos.
- see the pictures for youself had the tacos with everything on the side cause it was for my 9yr old and the other tacos for adults look at how these are served.
-you get better portions everywhere and anywhere else.
-lastly getting the corporate spiel, corporate control portion and cost is wack because if your in a position of authority you can make a difference you just chose not too.
-very disappointed overall with service, and food.

Not from the area and went in for dinner. Food and service was fantastic. Atmosphere is laid back and casual with no rush, even though we started a couple of hours. Definitely recommend!

Overall wasn't the best mexican restaurant I've been too. Service was slow on a slow night. The food was bland in my opinion. The asada fries weren't that great kind of dry and flavorless. I most likely wouldn't reccomend or come back for the price. They also don't accommodate dogs unless they are service dogs even in an outdoor patio area. So overall experience here I give it 3 I didn't take pics because I usually don't when I'm not a fan of the food.

Picked up and missing the sides to an order.. no offense but I even tipped you guys and you get it wrong. I work at a restaurant so to go should be checked and double checked. It's not taco bell I expected to have my whole order for what I paid for it. Bummer.

Barrio Queen in Scottsdale is truly a gem for authentic Mexican cuisine. Their carne asada is a mouthwatering masterpiece, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. But what stands out even more is the impeccable service. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and makes you feel right at home. A must-visit when in the area!
