Phoenix, 2601 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix, AZ 85008

If you’ve lived in Phoenix for a while, you probably remember the old county hospital at 24th Street and Roosevelt. Well, the Valleywise Health Medical Center at 2601 E Roosevelt St has officially entered a new era. In 2024, they opened a brand-new, 10-story state-of-the-art tower that completely replaced the aging 1970s building. For those of us in the 85008 area, it’s a huge relief to have a world-class facility that finally matches the high level of care the doctors and nurses here have always provided to the community.

The biggest game-changer in the new building is the move to all private patient rooms. If you’ve ever had to share a hospital room with a stranger, you know how stressful that can be; now, every patient gets their own space with a private bathroom and even a sleeper sofa so a family member can stay overnight. The design also lets in a ton of natural light, with huge windows that give you a view of Camelback Mountain while you’re healing. It feels a lot less like a "scary hospital" and more like a modern place designed for actual comfort.

A huge point of pride for this location is the Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center, which now takes up an entire floor. It’s one of the best burn units in the whole country, and having it consolidated into one dedicated space means patients get much faster, more streamlined care. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, they are also the ones who handle the most serious emergencies for both adults and kids. Whether it’s the specialized pediatric wing or the advanced maternity suites, they’ve really leaned into their mission as the Valley’s primary "safety net" hospital.

Getting around the new campus is a lot easier, too. There’s a new parking garage and much clearer signage, so you aren't wandering around a maze of old hallways. Since it’s a public teaching hospital, you’ll often see students from Creighton University or the University of Arizona, which means you’re getting care from a team that is always up-to-date on the latest medical research. It’s a clean, welcoming, and high-tech spot that makes a tough day at the hospital feel just a little bit easier to manage.

EMT’s took my neighbor in, a sixty seven yr old diabetic, wound in ankle, who was altered mentally in part due to a recent eviction. She was found asleep in her former front porch. Instead of doing a full mental assessment, they released her at midnight in the freezing cold. They actually referred her to a shelter knowing it was far too late to get a bed. The woman landed back on the property banging on former neighbors doors begging for help. Valleywise neglected this poor woman and discharged her without proper care to her wellbeing. The social worker there actually handed her a pair of jeans that didn’t even fit. Disgusting dereliction of duty, I’m appalled and I would never refer another human being to this facility. They threw this poor woman out like trash knowing she had nowhere else to go.

I was brought into the hospital after a fall while hiking on South Mountain;rescue team and ambulance brought me quickly to the emergency room where I was promptly looked after by the best nursing staff...the fall caused my tendon to rupture from my patella and needed surgery which happened the next day !!!! Surgery was a success and I was released the following day !! Great staff, great facility and nothing but 100% gratitude for all the help I required

Tammy Gabel, nurse manager is beyond incompetent. She pushes ratios beyond safe staffing then states that nurses are not allowed to refuse an assignment, which is not true, and in the same email states call light response times need to improve. How obtuse do you have to be to ask nurses to do more work and also ask them to answer call lights more quickly? What a poor excuse for leadership.

You're better off committing suicide than being treated here. I'd rather go to a VA hospital than here. Also, don't leave children or handicapped people unattended, I just saw where they tossed a quadrapalegic man on the ground in an ant bed, then lied about it. I hope yall are sued and close down. The fire department captain said this isn't the first time the hospital has done this. Don't fire the security officers as scapegoats either. This is something your top administration needs to be held accountable for.

Emergency room: I just witnessed the most disgusting thing. The parking lot is absolutely filled. There are no open spots to park at the emergency room. Many people had to park along a fence. A police officer came in and talked to security. Security says, in English only, that anyone parked there is going to get a ticket. Never mind that there are people here who don't speak English. And of course, he didn't relay the message to anyone who spoke Spanish so they could translate. Hard not to see that as racist. There are no clear signs as to where overflow parking is.

My daughter was T-boned and she waited in the hallway for more than 5 hours before receiving the bloodwork and scan results from us rather than the professionals treating her. Waited an additional hour for dr to release her. That wait time is deplorable. The individuals at the front desk gave us attitude telling us it is a hospital and these wait times are normal. We had 5 family members waiting in the cramped, filthy waiting area the entire time and we had to ask for updates in order to provide them to our daughter waiting in the hallway. So dirty that I wanted to take a shower in sanitizer. I went to help my 81 year mother to restroom and an individual appeared to be doing drugs and forgot to lock the door. Absolutely ridiculous! You are more likely to get more sick than when you arrived while waiting in ER waiting area. To the front desk employee, you are correct, this is a hospital so you should be professional at ALL times.

Labor & Delivery Team was excellent!!! They never left me alone & kept checking on me for 3hrs I was in labor. ER Team took me immediately to Triage & I was roomed quickly. The delivery team left me in tears of joy with their help!

Postpartum nurses were wonderful! One downfall was the double rooms. My husband & didn't have privacy. We had night battles with the lights. The person next door complained about the things I wanted on & about the room temp I was comfortable with. Another problem for me is that they didn't have a shower for my husband, who was staying with me. After not showering for 2-3days for him, we got discharged. 3rd child & I've never experienced the room sharing or shower problem with a hospital. It felt very unwelcoming to rest in postpartum dept. The food was horrible. Most hospitals offer first celebratory meals to couples in past places I've delivered. We didn't get anything, just a small slice of cheese cake. Lol.

Labor and delivery doctors and nurses are great. Shared rooms ,restrooms and showers are horrible. people are loud and inconsiderate. Should have visitor hours limited so people can actually rest after birth instead of listening to people constantly coming in and out of room at all hours of night. Would not recommend.

Had an appointment for a c-section at 8am. We arrived at 7:50. Placed in a room and waited. I didn’t deliver until 4:10pm because they had “ emergencies” which ment my surgery was pushed back. I understand a couple hours but 8?! I had been fasting for 8 hours before I got there added on another 8 without even water. Rooms are sharing rooms no sleep at all. Noise all night. Not a good experience for me and my bf who had to keep driving back to Mesa to shower.
