Malka is a kosher restaurant located at 161 W 72nd Street in Manhattan, New York City. After years of waiting, Malka will be Eyal Shani’s first kosher restaurant in New York City, and the first Malka outside of Tel Aviv.

For Eyal Shani, “opening a kosher restaurant is the most natural thing in the world. Every day I bow to the divine creation in my own way - sometimes it's called zucchini and sometimes it's called lettuce. But there were many people who could not eat my food - food that I have been making for years - for kosher reasons. They would look at it from the side and would like to lick it. In Judaism they say that kosher is a limitation, but this limitation produces wonderful forms of food.”

ABOUT EYAL SHANI

Chef Eyal Shani was born in Jerusalem in 1959. His culinary passion was first instilled in him by his grandfather, an agronomist and a dedicated vegan, who exposed him to local markets, fields, and vineyards from a young age. In 1989, he opened his first restaurant "Oceanus" in his home town of Jerusalem. There, he developed a unique culinary language based on regional Mediterranean products: olive oil, fish, tahini, fresh seasonal vegetables and of course, the tomato.

Joined by his partner, Shahar Segal, the duo operates HaSalon, North Abraxas, North Miznon, Lilienblum, SHMONÉ, Bella, Miznon, Port Sa'id, Romano, Mirage, Malka, Dvorah and their sister restaurants around the globe.

Malka had 10/10 amazing service and a great Israeli atmosphere. However, I was amazed as to how you can call yourself an Israeli restaurant and serve hummus with out any sort of pita or laffa. Additionally, their so called "focaccia' bread that they serve is more like a tiny Neapolitan style pizza that reminded me nothing like a nice piece of focaccia bread. Other than that, the mains at Malka were very unique and enjoyable.

I wish I could rate this 6/5 stars!
We had expected excellence, and Malka exceeded our expectations by a mile.
The staff was so friendly and helpful, the vibes were perfect for many different styles of dinner scenes, and the food was absolutely delicious. We will be returning to Malka soon, hungry for more.

We had such a fabulous dinner at Malka last night. It was beyond a doubt the best kosher food I have had outside Israel. Everything was fresh, tasty, and original. The welcome was friendly and outgoing. The service was prompt and professional. (How often can you say that about a kosher restaurant, sorry) Definitely start with the just out of the oven Flatbread with the spicy dips. Pick a couple of the veggies. We adored the charred broccolini. The ginormous crunchy tender chicken schnitzel is a whole chicken breast, definitely shareable! On to a braised tender, mouth watering delicious braise of a whole slab of lamb spare ribs cooked with tomatoes, organic rainbow carrots and grapes. We basically took it home for dinner the next night it was so rich and generous. I can’t wait to go back with a big group and enjoy this wonderful addition to the kosher dining scene in New York. Trust me. You don’t have to be kosher to fall in love!

We were so looking forward to try out this new restaurant. The ambiance was really nice, staff was GREAT as well. The food was spectacular!!! We didn't order much, just a few appetizers for the most part (as seen in the pics). I would definitely come here again, it's one of those places that just feels like home. So beyond cozy. The reason for the 4 star is only because some of the portions are insanely TINY. For example, the pasta that we ordered... that in itself is maybe 3-4 bites at most. So we were disappointed in that, the other things we ordered were sized decently. But I do wish that they would give just a bit more.
